And for that reason you cannot say which school ranks better than the other. But don’t worry I’ll give you every update that is available on the web. And another thing, this ranking list that I’m updating will not be based on popularity but on performance.

Professor Rhodora N. Englis, MSU-IIT campus secretary announced “the Octava won in all the three categories of the competition. They got two silvers and one gold.”
“This is something for Mindanawons to be proud of because the gold certificate is given only to those who have reached the international standards. There were five renowned judges of the competition, two of whom came from Europe and two from Asia,” she said.
Prof. Francisco Englis, director of the Octava and also an English professor at the university, said “the contest also graded the contestants and it can make us to the World Choir Olympic.”
“It was very challenging because we competed with UP and University of Santo Tomas (UST) choral groups. The latter has won as the world champion of Gregorian Chanting. But we love singing with them especially that we are the lone contestant from Mindanao allowed by CCP,” Englis said.
Octava sang Elijah Rock, a 16th century renaissance song.
They also sang Filipino folk songs such as Mamayug Akun, a Maranao courtship song; Dael, a Maguindanao song; and Si Filemon, a song that tells the life of small fisherfolk.
In the avant garde category, they sang “Goani—A long time ago”, a song that tells about the Maranao tribe who dwelt in peace and were later disturbed with conflicts that ended in a bloody war.
This was originally sang by Octava in 1983 and made them champion in a competition organized by former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
In this song, the choir magnificently accentuated the voices of playing children and the Muslims’ call to prayer with the chanting of “Allahuaakbar!,” a depiction of the tribe’s sunny lives. As the song sailed into its depths, the choir stomped their feet and occasionally clapped their hands to dramatize and reecho violence until their voices sank into sad wailings for the wounded and the dead.
Goani is composed by Englis himself and sourced from influences derived from Maranao music and rhythm.
“It’s a sound in some parts of Mindanao. It is still best for this Mindanao contingent to sing this from our heartfelt experiences,” he said.
The same song was sung by the UP Concert Chorus in an international competition where they won 1st place under the direction of the late Rey Paguio.
In the recent competition, Octava dedicated “Goani’ to Dr. Ramon Santos, a world-renowned Filipino composer whose major works have been performed in different countries.
Before the actual competition in Manila, Octava held a rehearsal cum critique for all their songs at MSU-IIT’s College of Education amphitheatre with former choir singers from other universities of the country, artists from the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, students, teachers, city officials, religious leaders, and local artists as observers.
They got a standing ovation from the audience in that rehearsal. Viewers were later allowed to comment after their presentations to perfect the choir’s voices, movements, clothes, and stage projection.
Octava choir members are scholars of MSU-IIT. It is a resident choir of IIT along with other art groups such as IPAG, Kalimulan Cultural Group, and Echoes. (Violeta M. Gloria/MindaNews)

“She is actually capable of doing great things while staying within the bounds of her faith,” she said.
“I have never been prouder that I am a Muslim and a Moro,” said Mylene, 28.
A graduate of the Mindanao State University (MSU) College of Law Extension at the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Mylene became the first Muslim woman to place second in the bar exams.
This is also the first time that the MSU law college in Iligan City has succeeded in placing a graduate on the top 10.
Iligan City was abuzz with the news of Mylene’s feat, especially resonant as it is also the home of the country’s first Muslim woman lawyer, Lindao Macarambon Boransing.
“There is still discrimination in this country against Muslims and Muslim women due largely to misconceptions,” Mylene said.
“I hope to help erase those misconceptions,” she said.
Mylene taught accounting at MSU-IIT before settling down to becoming a full-time mother to five-year-old son Rocky.
She is married to Arassad Macumbal, the municipal trial court judge of Bacolod town in the province of Lanao del Norte.
The Macumbals are a family of achievers.
Mylene graduated magna cum laude when she took her accounting degree, also at MSU-IIT, in 2002. She placed 18th in the CPA board exam the following year. She also graduated magna cum laude from law school in 2008.
Her husband, Arassad, is a lawyer and civil engineer and placed 9th in the civil engineering board exams of 1993.
Son Rocky is also at the top of his class at Kumon Philippines, a tutorial school for young achievers, in Iligan City.
Mylene’s father, Tammy Amerol, a former internal revenue regional director who died recently, placed 12th in the CPA board examinations in the 1970s.
It was her father who got Mylene interested in the law.
“He was a frustrated lawyer. He stopped during his first year at law school because he was so busy with work and he had me and my three brothers to always bother him when he was studying,” Mylene said of her father.
“His law books were just there in our home library, together with the encyclopedias I loved to read. So I could not help but open them, and the rest is history,” she said.
Mylene said her mother, Nora Amerol, also instilled in her the value of studying.
But she pointed to her husband, Arassad, as her inspiration and mentor.
“He really pushed me to study, since day one. He told me, ‘Don’t just study for class, study for the bar.’”
Mylene’s husband said he convinced her to study law in Iligan as he believed in the professors of the law college there. She wanted to apply to a law school in Manila.
“We use the same books and our teachers know the same laws. There really is no difference. Now, I guess my theory was proven correct,” the judge said with a smile.

UP framed their argument by defining displaced OFWs as those pulled out of dangerous areas like Iraq and Gaza. They argued it is government’s responsibility to give compensation and assistance to these workers.
The Iskolars ng Bayan asserted that as remittances from overseas workers keep the economy afloat, it’s just right that the government give back by extending help to them through referrals in local and international employment market.
But MSU-Iligan pointed out that UP did not properly engage the motion and that what UP proposed was no different from what exists in the status quo. It was Best Speaker Mara Nanaman, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, who identified the main issue as one of Government prioritizing displaced OFWs.
Taking off from that point, MSU-Iligan built the case that laid-off workers who chose to stay in the Philippines did not deserve any less assistance from the state. And for that matter, those who lost their jobs because of conflict in Mindanao were no different from the OFWs pulled out of war-torn foreign countries. MSU asserted that nation-building isn’t gauged by monetary contributions, therefore all should be treated equally. “Let them all fall in line!” called Nanaman.
Government Whip Claire Jiao tried to salvage UP’s case by arguing that the local workers the opposition was seeking to protect were the very beneficiaries of OFW money. Thus, OFWs did deserve special treatment. But this line of reasoning came too late and wasn’t fully fleshed out.
“Given the discussion of how human resources are equally important, we don’t see why OFWs have to be prioritized based on tonight’s debate, so we give the win unanimously to the opposition,” Chief Adjudicator Sharmila Parmanand explained.
The announcement was greeted by tears and cheers from the MSU side – debaters and supporters (in both ANC’s Quezon City and Cagayan de Oro studios) alike. “MSU Alumni the world over are celebrating this victory!” said the girls’ very emotional coach. “Thank you to Square Off: Frankahan for giving us this chance to shine!”

CSM (of MSU-IIT) is the only institution in the Visayas and Mindanao area that achieved the feat of being a Center of Excellence in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. With the recognition and a corresponding financial grant, the College was able to update its instructional facilities, acquire state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, improve library facilities, and finance other research-related activities.
CSM boasts of being the LEADING INSTITUTION IN SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS IN MINDANAO. It aims to be an internationally-recognized National Center in Science and Mathematics. The college has a very competent faculty force, which includes almost 50 Ph.D. holders, the highest concentration of Ph.D.’s in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (except Mega Manila). Some faculty members are recipients of “Outstanding Young Scientists” Awards and “Outstanding Scientific Paper” Awards from the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award. Many professors in CSM who were/are earning their PhD degree had/have been awarded abroad for there contributions in research.
The DOST recognizes the College as a nodal institution, where DOST Scholars nationwide can study. Other institutions providing scholarship grants in science and mathematics usually advise students in the Mindanao area to enroll in the MSU-IIT’s CSM. These make CSM, and MSU-IIT as a whole, the home of most scholars in Visayas and Mindanao.
Through the years, its percentage passing in the Chemistry Licensure Examination has been consistently very high. The college has also produced several winners in different regional/national student competitions. It has also consistently sent delegates to the most prestigious training ground for student leaders, the Ayala National Young Leaders Congress. Many of the graduates of the College are now well-placed and are leaders in their respective fields.
The CSM’s contestant made it to the top 3 in latest National Search for Math Wizard. Many top schools in the Philippines joined the competition but only Math wizards from UP-Diliman (2) and MSU-IIT (1) grabbed the top 3 slots. The Mathematics Dep’t is also proud of its excellent portfolio, offering Doctor in Mathematics (only one in the Philippines) and PhD in Math, very good ratio of students and PhD holders and competitive research laboratories.
The Biology Dep’t which offers General Biology, Zoology, Botany and Marine Biology (coming very soon…Genetics) is the biggest department in CSM in terms of population.
And its Physics is the best physics dep’t outside Metro Manila and the most respected dep’t in CSM. The founder of CSM, Dr. Remigio Tee, is a physicist. Most Summa Cum Laudes in the university were products of Physics Dep’t. Until now, top Dean’s lister is a BS physics. The department holds annual national physics conference, with speakers from abroad, that further enhances and promotes physics research in the Philippines.
The youngest Dep’t, the Health Science which houses the Nursing students makes MSU-IIT a consistent top school in Nursing. So far, all batch of board exam takers have their very own top notchers. The dep’t is said to be an “adopted” dep’t of CSM since it is only an extension from MSU-Main. But because of its excellent performance, the dep’t is now preparing for it’s new name and new level – College of Nursing of MSU-IIT (no longer an extension). The college-to-be dep’t is set to transform next year.
Overall, CSM is the flagship college in MSU-IIT. Its performance in research, education and extension is very excellent that it deserves to be crowned as the King of all the colleges in Visayas and Mindanao that focus in Science & Mathematics.

Silliman University has an outstanding academic record since its founding in 1901. It has produced board topnotchers ever since.
In Nursing, its Group Passing Average(GPA) in board exams is 96%-100%,but prior to 1980′s, it has a remarkable 100% GPA throughout the years since the establishment of the College of Nursing. In Accountancy, its GPA is 96%-100%. In Mechanical Engineering, its GPA is 98%-100%. In Electrical Engineering, its GPA is 98%-100%. In Law,its GPA is 50%-60%,one of the highest, considering that Ateneo’s is 90%,and the National Passing Average is 20%. In Physical Therapy, its GPA is 98%-100%. The first batch of Silliman Physical Therapy board examinees in about 1998 grabbed the highest board exam GPA for the year.
Many of its Faculty Members have specialized in the United States, like Oxford University,Harvard, University of California Los Angeles,University of California Berkeley, Columbia University and its sister school, the Stanford University.
Silliman University, founded by Americans in 1901 and administered by the same for many decades thereafter, with direct financial support from the United States, has a convenient learning environment with a 64-hectare lot, including a beach resort. Its green campus is perfect, lined with old acacia trees, and beautiful buildings, including the Silliman Library.
Silliman Library, which is larger than the National Library in Taft Ave., Manila, is the LARGEST in Southeast Asia. Its theater,Luce Auditorium(donated by one of the owners of Time Magazine), is the only theater that is almost the same in structural design as the Cultural Center of the Philippines. More power Silliman!!!

STATE UNIVERSITY man ta..

as i read the article, i wasn’t able to see an exact link or source of the rankings for 2009.. the rankings were realistic but we have to be precise here as the name and reputation of the schools are also at stake here.. uhm, do you have any links or exact sources?
as u know, there have been conflicts with regard to the rankings.. there are a lot of university rankings there.. me, i can just simply write on my blog the reverse ranking of ur list and just simply put there that it came from PRC and CHED.. and all the people who will read it will believe.. u see my point? it’s easy to put “from PRC and CHED” but what we need is a clear source from PRC or CHED themselves.. i tried to look at the websites of PRC and CHED and i failed to see the list..
i admire u for having an interest in the education system in our country and i wanna thank u for keeping us updated.. hope we could see a definite source of ur list to end up all this debates.. thank you..

BOR pa jud ang mag-tang2? bogoa jud nimo ui, ang CHED ra may makabuot.. and CHED gave CBA a new name-> CBAA na.. nagpasabot nga na-recognize nila ang accountancy.. asa na man imo pangutok ui, if ang BOR ang magtangtang sa program, mura ra na ug nagtanom ug kahoy then giputol bisan wala pa midako.. ang ched ra ang naay karapatan magtanggal sa course bayot… ang tanggalon kay kanang 0% ang passing rate for how many years.. basin ngipon nuon nimo ako tangtangon ron.. pataka lang ka tabi dah.. moklo ka! moklo! moklo! moklo! pauli sa inyo bukid nga squatter.. ew!!!

maayo pa magfarmtown mo or mag-happy aquarium.. ooopss… sori.. cge man diay brownout sa inyo bukid no mao dili mo ka-facebook permi.. hehe..
so, unsaon man pag-rank if walay exams para ana nga course? ang CHED kay naay gipang-awardan nga universities nga ilang gitawag ug CENTER OF EXCELLENCE/DEVELOPMENT. and im proud to say nga ang MSU-IIT ang kinadaghanang COE/COD programs sa tibuok pilipinas excluding Mega Manila. so, dili kaduhaduhaan nga mag-top jud mi. kamo, unsa sa CNSM, COE, College/School of Computer studies or unsa pa ba inyo college dira nga naay program nga naka-center of development man lang? naa? kung naa man gani siguro, basin isa, duha or tulo ra pud.. please, pagbaton ug kaulaw, mas daghan pa ug COE/COD ang Xavier sa inyo.
